An editorial checklist for AI-assisted article drafts

An AI-assisted draft needs a human editorial decision before publication. Check that it answers a real question, that its claims are supported, and that the final published page works for the reader.

Confirm that the article has a distinct purpose

Write the question the article answers in one sentence. Then read the introduction and check whether it gives a direct, useful response. If the draft mainly restates a topic without explaining anything, revise the outline before polishing individual sentences.

Compare the proposed article with existing pages on your site. If they serve the same reader and answer the same question, improving the existing page may be more useful than adding another. A different phrasing of a keyword does not by itself create a distinct editorial purpose.

Check claims against evidence

Highlight numbers, named examples, product capabilities, quotations and promises of results. Verify each against a source you can identify. Remove claims that you cannot support. Do not treat the generated draft or its confidence of expression as proof.

For BrandLens-related copy, distinguish available report signals from guarantees. A visibility score is not measured traffic, a complete inventory of online mentions, or a promise of search placement. Drafts should preserve these limits rather than turning a tool observation into a broad marketing claim.

Review structure and language

Use a main heading that reflects the article?s purpose. Arrange sections in the order a reader needs them: answer, explanation, practical steps and relevant next action. Give each section a descriptive heading and remove sections that repeat earlier material without adding useful detail.

Prefer concrete language to generic encouragement. Explain what to inspect, what evidence to record and what a completed action looks like. Where an example is hypothetical, label it clearly and avoid invented names or results that could be mistaken for a real customer story.

Review links, metadata and attribution

Open each proposed link and confirm that it supports the surrounding text. Choose internal links that help the reader understand a related topic or complete the next step. Link text should describe the destination; repeated exact phrases are unnecessary.

Write a title and description that match the article. Use truthful attribution to the person or organization responsible for the content, without adding invented credentials. Record the publication date when the page is actually published, and change its updated date when the substance meaningfully changes.

Preview the content in its publishing environment

The BrandLens editor lets you review and save article content and metadata, then copy HTML into your publishing tool. Saving a draft is separate from publishing a public page. Check the destination preview because its theme and styles can change the way copied content is displayed.

Inspect long headings, lists, tables, links and images at a narrow screen width. Confirm useful image alternative text and sensible dimensions where images are present. Make sure a reader can find the next step without an overflowing element or a link that leads to an unrelated page.

Make and record the publication decision

Before publishing, confirm who is responsible for the final review and whether any unresolved claims remain. Hold the draft if essential facts cannot be checked. A smaller set of accurate, useful articles is easier to maintain than many pages that repeat uncertain information.

After publication, open the live URL and inspect its content, metadata and links. Keep a note of substantive changes for later review. Use the AI-assisted content guide for the full BrandLens workflow, and remember that editorial quality does not guarantee indexing, rankings or citation by an AI assistant.
